What are You Doing After You Graduate?

If you're graduating soon, you can relate to the question 95% of people ask when talking about your near future...

“So what are you doing after you graduate?”

Honestly, everyone is different.
We're all different types of students with different reasons for going to college. Some may already have the career of their dreams, some may have an idea in mind, and some may not even know, but ultimately whatever you plan or not plan after the big day comes, it's OK.

Personally, I have many ideas but the answers I give most people range from:

Traveling (because who wouldn't want to see some new sights after years of classes)
Sleeping  (we all know we lost endless amount of hours of sleep over the years)
Working  (we finally have time to work and make money without having to worry about studying for 5 tests or writing those 20 page essays!)

The responses I've gotten sound like this...

“Yeah it'd be nice to relax but if you don't have a career within a year then you should be worried”

Or

“If you don't have an internship or a career lined up, then it's really too late for anything”

So unfortunately, many people have the misconception that out of college you HAVE to have a job in line that you'll call your career for the rest of your life. Now, everyone is free to have their own ideals and outlooks on life so I really didn't mind what others thought.

And you shouldn't either.
The reason for this blog is to tell you that whatever you're doing after you graduate is OK!
Don't be discouraged by anyone, because ultimately comparing yourself to someone else doesn't do the self any good and neither does looking down on yourself on your plans or lack of plans.

Heck, I'm 21-years-old, extremely proud, and excited for what's in store. Because if no one has told you yet, you're graduating in a few weeks… that's amazing. And I don't know about you, but graduating with a Bachelor's degree at any age is a valuable and rewarding; major life step in itself.

It's up to you to make the best of whatever step comes next in life.

If you need some ideas on what to do after graduation you can find 39 tips here,  #5 is my favorite.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on graduating, or the crazy responses you've gotten when answering the infamous question,

What are you doing after you graduate?

  1. I totally get you. I'm not too worried about what i'm going to do after i graduate. I mean i'm kind of figuring it out as i go. I guess for me, I'd of course look for a career, but in the meantime i'll probably get a job until i find my career. I'd like to travel, but I'm broke /: .. and i will be doing a loooot of sleeping!

  2. I think soon I'll write something about being able to travel on a budget. I've traveled to many places this year and I didn't break the bank. So be on the look out for that!! :)

  3. I agree with you all. I think that people should not worry to much about what they are going to do after they graduate from college. The important thing here is to get a bachelor's degree and the opportunities for careers are going to come later. I also think that after college is the only time people have to travel and to enjoy family and friends because later people focus on their careers and they do not have time for anything else anymore.
